For a lot of you, you already know the story of what happened with my most recent Credo Beauty order, what you might not know is how MV Organics stepped in to save the day.
Now don't get me wrong, I love Credo Beauty. The people who work there are sweet, intelligent and passionate and I am all for a store that caters towards the natural beauty world. What I was not a fan of was receiving expired products.
One afternoon I could not believe my eyes, on a routine scan of Credo's online sale section, I found a massive amount of MV Organic products (which for those of you who are familiar with the brand know that is a fantastic find!!). I quickly hopped on social media to tell all of you to head over there ASAP and order yours. Then I returned to the site and filled my basket with all the goodies I could find.
When the shipment finally came, I was overjoyed and so excited to try out these products for you guys, but I was soon overcome with disappointment when I saw that almost half of the products I had ordered were expired and the other half would expire in a matter of months.
Every product has a shelf life, natural or not. That being said because natural products don't contain chemical preservatives it is so much more important to be wary of expiration dates since they come faster. I would never recommend using a product after it has expired because it will not only lose its potency, but it could also be dangerous for your health.
When I saw that the products were expired, I called the store to ask if there was any way I could still use them rather than throw them out, mind you I had spent a few hundred dollars on these products... The women I talked to was so apologetic and said that should have never happened but unfortunately she couldn't recommend using them. She then suggested I call there customer service line, so I did.
Although I know the women I spoke to had the best intentions and the situation was out of her control, I left the numerous interactions we had over the phone feeling frustrated. There was a lot of waiting for her to get back to me and uncertainty in what could be done to help the situation.
What I wanted was to receive new products that I could actually use, and since they were still posted as available on their website, I was confused why this would be an issue. Well, what I found out a couple of phone calls later is that they were out of stock of all the products despite listing them on their website as still available. So my only option was to throw out these products, and I was offered a refund and free shipping on my next order (despite this being something already provided if you spend over $50.00 which I mean come on.. when was the last time you purchased natural beauty under $50.00).
I was left disappointed and discouraged because I was planning to review the products for you and while I was waiting for them to arrive my skin was suffering! I had been out of skincare and spent every extra penny I had to buy these products that now, three weeks later, I couldn't even use.
I also felt awful that I may have put you in a similar boat by recommending these products, so I quickly hopped on Instagram and told all of you not to purchase the MV Organic products off the sale section because despite them showing up as available they aren't or worse they will send you expired products. That is when MV Organics, who did not need to step in, took insane measures to help me.
I logged back onto Instagram later that day and saw that MV Organics had reached out to me apologizing for the experience I had (even though it was in no way their fault!). They sympathized with my case knowing I had spent a lot of money on their products and how disappointing it must have been to receive products that are nearly or 100% expired. They expressed their disappointment with Credo Beauty because they are so passionate about their products and obviously want everyone to love and respect them as much as they do. And then, as if a personalized apology wasn't enough (which it was!!) they offered to work with another retailer (The Detox Market) to provide me with a discount on their products, at their expense (meaning they would cover the discounted amount) and offer me a free-gift with purchase. A day later I received the personalized coupon code, and I cannot wait to use it to pick out more of their amazing products.
I wanted to write this post not to point fingers at anyone but to highlight good customer service when you see it. Everyone makes mistakes, and it is how you own up to it that makes the difference. In the natural beauty community buying products online is so common because a lot of brands are small and can not afford the retail space, that is why making an online purchase experience enjoyable is so important to everyone involved. This experience also is a good learning lesson for retailers, always check your stock before you send it out. No one wants to send expired products and just taking the extra minute to handle the product with care and do a final double check can make all the difference.
As I said, I do love what Credo Beauty stands for and the products they make accessible, but I will be wary of purchasing from their sale section again. As for MV Organics, I am absolutely loving the products I have been trying (comment if you want a full review!) and have seen an incredible transformation in my skin.
I hope that this was helpful if any of you have been in a similar situation and that it reminds you to be conscious of those expiration dates!!
Have a lovely week, see you all Friday! xxo
